Jenelly Matundu

Hon. Jenelly Matundu was born in Opuwo, and she is originally from Otjerunda Village in the Opuwo Urban District of Kunene Region.

Hon. Jenelly Matundu is a holder of the National Diploma: Human Resources Management from the Polytechnic of Namibia (2009). She has also completed her Bachelor of Human Resources Management (Honours) from the University of Science and Technology (2019) and is yet to be obtained. She further obtained certificates in the following short Courses: Basic Record and Computerized Record Management, Stock Control and Professional Development Training on Teacher’s Personal Computer.

Her political career started at a very tender age and became active in 1996 when she was a Grade 10 learner at Putuavanga Junior Secondary School in Opuwo – Kunene Region. In 2003, Hon. Matundu join the SWAPO Party Youth League and she was elected Branch Secretary for Matutura Section in the same year until 2006. Hon. Matundu served as a SPYL wing representative at Okatuuo Branch from 2006 – 2012. She served as District Secretary for Opuwo District from 2010 to 2014 and continued to serve for Opuwo Urban and Opuwo Rural District as SPYL District Secretary after the demarcation of Regions whereby Opuwo Constituency was divided into two Constituencies in 2014 to 2017. During 2015 – 2017 Hon. Matundu served as the District Executive Member and also serves as a member of the Regional Executive Committee as SPYL representative. Hon. Matundu has been mandated to supervise the restructuring process of the SPYL structures in three Districts namely: Opuwo Rural, Opuwo Urban and Epupa Districts. Hon. Matundu served as support staff at the SPYL Congress held in Katima Mulilo in 2017 and also served as the Secretariat at the same SPYL Congress. Hon. Matundu was nominated by the Regional Executive Committee as a candidate to contest for the SWAPO Party Central Committee. President Hage G. Geingob – Ours Truly nominated Hon. Matundu to the SWAPO Party Central Committee via the Presidential nominees in 2017 up to date. Hon. Matundu is currently a National Leader Assigned to Kunene Northern part in Kunene Region. She has been mandated to supervise the Renewal of Mandates for Kunene Northern part as a National Leader Assigned and awarded a certificate of appreciation by the SWAPO Party for successfully completed the task in 2019. Hon. Matundu was elected member of the National Assembly in 2019 on the SWAPO Party ticket, and sworn in as the member of the National Assembly in 2020 – 2025.

Hon. Matundu joined the Ministry of Education as Clerical Assistant in 2000 and promoted to the rank of Examination Clerk in 2002 until 2010. During her tenure as Examination Clerk, Hon. Matundu was awarded a Gold award for her commitment towards the Advancement of Quality Education in Kunene Region the then Khorixas Education Region as it was clustered with Erongo Region. She moved to the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare as Chief Clerk – Directorate; Child Welfare: Division: Child Allowance in 2010 and later promoted to the Rank of Chief Community Liaison Officer: Directorate: Gender Equality and Research in 2012. During the year 2014 - 2015, Hon Matundu was appointed as the Acting Deputy Director and Regional Head of the Ministry in Kunene Region and continued being the Regional Head after her term as Acting Deputy Director ended.

During 2010 and 2014, Hon. Matundu was appointed on a temporary basis by the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) as Supervisor of Registration (Registration of Voters) and Returning Officer for the Presidential, Regional and Local Authority Elections.

During Her tenure as Regional Head at the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare 2014 - 2019, she served on the following Committees: Regional Disaster Risk Management Committee, Regional Development Coordination Committee, Procurement Management Unit and served on Procurement Committee, Regional Resettlement Committee, Regional Gender Permanent Task Force and was the Chairperson for the Gender-Based Violence and Human Rights Cluster and Governor’s Regional Development Committee.

Hon. Matundu has been appointed as Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation on the 21 March 2020.
