Ambassador Selma Ashipala-Musavyi was appointed as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs effective 1 June 2013. Ambassador Ashipala-Musavyi is a consummate diplomat. She served as Namibia’s High Commissioner to the Republic of Ghana as from 2012, Ambassador to Liberia from 2011 and High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria from 2010.
Ambassador Ashipala-Musavyi also served as Namibia’s Ambassador to Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia and Permanent Representative of Namibia to UN Office in Vienna from 2006 – 2010.
From 2004 – 2006, Ambassador Ashipala–Musavyi was Deputy Chief of Mission at the Namibian Embassy in Washington DC, USA prior to which she was Under-Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Head of the Department of Multilateral Affairs from 2001-2004.
Ambassador Ashipala-Musavyi also served as Deputy Head of Delegation of Namibia to the UN Security Council from 1999 – 2000, Deputy Permanent Representative of Namibia to the United Nations from 1995-2000, Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of Namibia to the United Nations, New York from 1991-1995 and as Desk Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from1990-1991.
Ambassador Ashipala-Musavyi holds a Masters Degree in Diplomatic Studies from Keele University, U.K., 1989.
