Hon. Maureen Magreth Hinda, MP
Hon Dr Peya Mushelenga (born in Oshigambo, Oshikoto Region) is a Namibian politician and poet. He joined SAWPO, then a movement for liberation of Namibia in 1984, at the age of 9. Prior to Namibia’s independence he served as a student activist in the Namibian National Students Organisation (NANSO). He served as Secretary-General of the Student Representative Council (SRC) and Member of the University Senate in 1995. In 1996, he taught school for two months at Nehale Senior Secondary School and worked for four months as Assistant Information Officer at the National Assembly, before joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Foreign Relations Officer (Desk Officer) for the UN Desk.
Towards the end of 1998 he left the Ministry for Namibia Power Corporation (NamPower) where he worked as Executive Assistant to the Managing Director (1998 – 2002), Deputy Company Secretary (2002 – 2004) and Kudu Gas Project Coordinator: Administration and Logistics (2004 – 2005). He was elected Member of Parliament in 2005 and served as Assistant Whip of the Ruling Party. He served as Chairman of the Standing Committee on Economics, Natural Resources and Public Administration and Member of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security; and Standing Committee on Human Resources, Social and Community Development. He also represented Namibia in the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group (ACP) – European Union (EU) Joint Parliamentary Assembly. Hon Dr Mushelenga has served on a number of Boards and national committees since 1994. In March 2010 he was appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Namibia.

Hon. Maureen Magreth Hinda, the Deputy Minister of International Relations & Cooperation since 21st March 2015, hails from Vaalgrass in the Karas Region where she completed her secondary school education. A Bachelor of Commerce Honours (BCom Hons), graduate from the University of Western Cape (UWC) in South Africa. She is passionate about African development and corporate governance issues, studying towards a Masters in Development Finance (MDevF) at University of Stellenbosch Business School (USB).
Have vast experience in Public, Private Business and Education Sector, at Senior Management, Executive and Non-executive levels. Started her professional career as an Administrative Assistant at UNDP in the Finance Department, joined City Savings & Investment Bank (CSIB) as an Internal Auditor initially and promoted as Finance Manager. Including been a Regional Manager at the National Housing Enterprise are important milestones in her career development, attributed by her performance driven management style and consistent strive to excel. Ms. Hinda has served on important Parastatal Boards as Non-Executive Director both as a Chairperson and a Vice-Chairperson of Namibia Press Agency and Agribank of Namibia for about 10 years, as well as in the private sector Banking, Fishing and Mining industries on the Boards of Directors.
Ms. Hinda has participated in various Regional and International Peace Missions and Conferences, including UNAVEM II of 1992 to Angola and various SADC Election Observer missions. She also participated in the drafting of the first African Women’s Charter in Gambia in the early 90’s.
She joined politics at a very early age and has been a youth and student activist since 1983. As a Founder Member of the Namibian Students Association NANSO, she has made her mark as a respected student leader of the then Academy. A stalwart SWAPO Youth League (SPYL) member she is, who moved in ranks systematically from a section leadership to national leadership levels, as a Central Committee member and a National Executive Committee member.
She served the Non-governmental (NGO) Sector as well, The Namibian Worker newspaper as a translator, The Namibian Farmers Union (NNFU) as a financial advisor and at governance level, been a Board Member at the Namibian Housing Action Group (NHAG) and a board member of the Pan African Centre of Namibia since its inception.
She is described by many as: “having passion for people development, a catalyst for fair and equal treatment for all”.
She carries out each task with zeal and dedication, has immense love and loyalty towards Namibia and her people. Honed to communicate diplomatically at all levels of society, seasoned politician she is, indeed. Paternalistic in her nature, a mother and friend to many”
