What are Consular Services?

  • Consular services refers to the assistance provided to Namibian citizens who are living or traveling overseas. Such assistance includes among others, the provision and replacement of Namibian National travel documents, advice and support in the case of arrests, detention, accident, serious illness or death.
  • Similarly, assistance is also extended to foreign nationals who find themselves in similar circumstances, while in Namibia.
 

Welfare of Namibians abroad

  • The Ministry provides protection to the Namibians abroad in accordance with the Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations of 1961 and the Vienna convention on consular relations of 1963.
  • However it should be noted that any person who travels to a foreign state is bound by and must comply with the laws of that foreign state.
 

What assistance does the Ministry provide when a Namibian dies abroad?

  • The Ministry assists to facilitate the repatriation of the remains of Namibian citizens who passed on abroad.
  • However, due to financial constraints, financial assistance is not being extended. 
 

VISAS

Visa Requirements for Namibians Travelling Abroad

  • The Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation does not issue visas for foreign countries, but only facilitate by issuing a Note Verbale when Officers are travelling abroad, on Official duties.
  • Therefore, Visa requirements for Namibians travelling abroad differs from country to country. It is advised that applicants contact the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation prior to their travelling abroad.
 

The following is required prior to facilitation of a Note Verbale:

  • Completed application form
  • Passport photos
  • A letter from the O/M/As
  • Invitation letter to the meeting/ conference
  • Original passport
 

Precautions and Warnings

  • The passport must be valid for a period of six months prior to expiry.
 

Visa requirements for Foreigners Travelling to Namibia

  • The Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation is responsible for issuing visas for members of diplomatic and consular corps and their families; and Staff of International and Regional Organizations.
 

Visa Requirements

  • Completed application Form
  • Original Passport
  • 2 x Passport photos
  • Motivational Note Verbale from the Embassy/ International and Regional organization.
 

Precautions and Warnings

  • The passport must be valid for a period six months prior to expiry.

  • Emergency travel certificate (ETC)
  • Marital Status certificate
  • Police clearance certificate
  • Work Permit/ Visas
  • Study Permits
  • Domicile/ Temporary Residence Permit/ Permanent Residence Permit
